History

Our History

UCC launched in 2007 in Leppävaara, a suburb of the capital area and one of the fastest growing regions in the Nordics with two college campuses. In 2006 Shaun and Katja had moved from Tampere to build a team in Leppäavaara. As one of the most ethnically diverse regions in Finland, the vision was and is to live out an ethnically diverse church with a firm footing in robust teaching of the gospel. In 2008 an existing international church (Espoo International Christian Fellowship) closed its doors and merged with the Leppävaara church plant, and somewhere along the way we adopted the name United Community Church.

In 2008, we started a twice a month Bible study in Otaniemi, which blossomed into a congregation that served the Otaniemi area from 2013 to 2018.

In 2009 we opened a congregation in downtown Helsinki.

We merged the Otaniemi and Leppävaara congregations in 2019 in order to prepare for a new building in Matinkylä which will bridge both locations, with plans to continue church planting in the capital region.

A Family of Congregations

UCC is currently comprised of two congregations, one in Espoo and one in Helsinki. While each congregation is overseen by a local elder team and has its own distinctives, we are bound in close partnership through vision, shared resources, relationships, and an elder board which oversees UCC as a whole, and we are united under a shared statement of faith. Sharing certain resources enables us to be good stewards and do more gospel ministry in the capital region.
