Order of Worship

Song 1 – Holy, Holy, Holy
Hear God call you to worship:
Psalm 33: 1-5
1 Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous!
Praise befits the upright.
2 Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
3 Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.
4 For the word of the Lord is upright,
and all his work is done in faithfulness.
5 He loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.
Let us worship the Lord!

Our Scripture reading today is Colossians 2:16–23 (ESV). Hear the Word of God:
2:16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. 17 These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ. 18 Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.
20 If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations— 21 “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” 22 (referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to human precepts and teachings? 23 These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.
This is the Word of the Lord.
Human Tradition & Legalism vs. Freedom in Christ
– Colossians 2:16–23
I. Let no one disqualify you over practices that are outside of Christ (16–18)
II. Growth comes through Christ alone (19–20)
III. Christ is over legalism (20–23)
Confession of Sin
Holy God,
We confess that we all have sinned
and have fallen short of your glory.
Gracious God,
our sins are too heavy to carry,
too real to hide, and too deep to undo.
Merciful God,
Forgive us, renew us,
and set us free from the weight of our sins
and grant us grace to grow more and more
in your likeness and image;
through Jesus Christ,
the light of the world.
Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Hear the words of assurance from Romans 1:8:
“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
If you believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, you are welcome to receive the elements of communion.
The bread and the cup will be distributed as we sing together. You are welcome to join in singing or spend time in silent meditation or prayer.
Please hold the elements until all have received; we will all partake together as one body.
Song 5 – Behold the Lamb
Song 6 – Beautiful One
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name;
your kingdom come;
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who have sinned against us.
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.
“‘The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”’
– Numbers 6:24-26
