The way you welcome Jesus reveals whether you understand how deeply He has welcomed you

I. A Host Who Doesn’t Really Welcome vv 36-39
II. A Sinner Who Becomes the True Host vv 37-47
III. The Saviour Who Creates the Table vv 48–50

Introduction 
1. Can you remember a time when you felt truly welcomed somewhere? What made the difference? 
2. Why do you think meals and hospitality are such powerful moments in relationships and community? 
 
Into the Text
3. In verses 36-39, what do Simon’s actions and attitudes reveal about his view of Jesus and himself? 
4. Why would the woman’s actions have shocked the people in the room? What do details like the tears, the perfume, and letting down her hair reveal about her vulnerability and her response to Jesus? 
5. Jesus says in verse 47, “he who is forgiven little, loves little.” What does Jesus mean by this? How does the parable of the two debtors help explain it? 
6. In verses 48-50, what do Jesus’ words reveal about who He is and why the people react so strongly? 
 
Application Questions
7. In what ways can we become more like Simon, keeping Jesus near enough to admire but not near enough to change us? 
8. What would it look like this week to come to Jesus more honestly and openly, like the woman in this passage?
