3 but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.

When what you’re standing on won’t hold, trust the Word of Christ
I. When What You’re Standing On Fails vv 1-5
II. Trust the Word of Christ vv 6-8
III. Step Out, His Word Holds vv 9-10
Introduction
1. When something in your life feels unstable or out of control, what do you instinctively rely on first?
Into the Text
2. Read Luke 7:1-5. What details about the centurion and his situation are important for understanding this story? Why would it have been surprising for Luke to highlight a Roman officer in this way?
3. In verses 4-5, the elders say the centurion is worthy. On what grounds do they argue that? What does this reveal about how people often think they gain favor with God?
4. Read verses 6-7. The centurion says, “I am not worthy… but say the word.” What does this contrast teach us about the posture of genuine faith?
5. In verse 8, the centurion speaks about being a man under authority. What does this comparison show about how he understands who Jesus is?
6. In verse 9, Jesus calls this great faith. Based on the text, what makes this faith great? What is it rooted in?
Applying the Text
7. Where in your life are you reaching the limits of your own strength or control? What would it look like to trust Christ’s word there?
8. Is there an area where you agree with Jesus’ teaching but have not yet obeyed it? What is holding you back?
9. What would risk taking faith look like for you this week? Where is Jesus calling you to step out and trust Him?
